Pomfret Fish Fry Recipe
Indian Style Tawa Pomfret Fish Fry is a scrumptious dish which is marinated with indian spices and shallow fried in a tawa until cooked and crispy. It is a perfect as a starter or side dish. Making this fry at home has two advantages. Homemade fish always gives much better and stronger taste. And it is budget friendly too as the cost of pomfret fry is very high in most of the restaurants. Cooking a pomfret fish is my long time wish. But it took me so much time to try this as i was looking for this particular type of pomfret fish.

Pomfret Fish Fry

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 10 mins | Serves: 3


Pomfret Fish - 500 gms
Gram flour / Kadalai Maavu - 2 tblspn
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tblspn
Red chilli paste - 1 tblspn (paste made from 8 red chillies)
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder  1 tsp
Salt - to tast
lemon juice - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - a sprig
Oil - to shallow fry


Clean the fish and make slits on both the sides as shown in the picture.

In a bowl, combine together gram flour, curry leaves, chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, salt, ginger garlic paste and lemon juice.

Add little water and make it into a thick paste. Marinate the fish with the prepared paste for 30 minutes.

Heat oil in a wider pan and shallow fry till the fish is completely cooked.


  • Adjust the spices mentioned above according to the size of the fish.

Clean the fish and make slits om both sides as shown in the picture.
In a bowl, take gram flour, curry leaves
Add chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, turmeric, salt to taste
Make chilli paste by grinding 8 to 10 red chillies and add to it
Add ginger garlic paste to it
1 tsp of Lemon juice is added
Make a thick paste by sprinkling little water
Apply the paste on the fish and rub well to coat evenly
Heat oil to shallow fry and fry on both sides until the fish is cooked well
