Try this simple recipe and awesome tasting breakfast to please all your family members. Here we go to the recipe...

Rice flour/ Puttu flour – 1 cup
Grated coconut – 1 cup
Water – as required
Salt – to taste

Take puttu flour in a mixing bowl and add salt to it.
Sprinkle water little by little and mix well until you get a moist and coarse texture. At this stage the flour should be like breadcrumbs.

To check for right consistency, you should be able to form a shape when you hold it and also should be easily crumbled.

Add water to the bottom vessel of the puttu maker and let it boil for a minute.

Now place the holed disc inside the puttu maker. First spread some coconut followed by puttu flour. Alternatively fill it with coconut and puttu flour until you reach the top of funnel. The top and bottom layer should be coconut.

Attach it to the vessel and steam it for 5 minutes. Puttu is done.

Now push the bottom disc gently with the knife or with a spatula so that it comes out clean.

Serve hot with banana, sugar and payiru.

  • If you don’t have puttu maker place the flour in idly pot and steam it for 10 minutes. This way you can use a bowl to get a shape.
