Kadalai Paruppu Sungal
Kadalai Paruppu Sundal or Channa dal Sundal is a South Indian stir fried dish made with split chick peas. This sundal is also made during saraswati pooja and all other festivals in South India. It is an healthy dish.

Split Bengal gram dal - 1/2 cup
Turmeric - 1/8 tsp
Coconut - 4 tblspn
Dry red chilli - 3
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tsp


Clean the channa dal and pressure cook adding turmeric, salt and water for 4 to 5 whistles. When pressure subsides, drain excess water.

Heat oil in a pan, season with mustard seeds, broken red chillies and curry leaves.

Add in grated coconut and saute for a minute.

Then add the cooked channa and mix well. Stir fry for a minute and put off the flame.

Ingredients for chickpea sundal
Keep all your ingredients ready
add turmeric, salt
Clean the channa dal and take it in a pressure cooker. Add turmeric, salt and enough water
pressure cook
Pressure cook the dal for 4 to 5 whistles over medium flame. If soaked already, cook for 2 whistles
drain water
Drain the excess water
mustard seeds
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds
chillies and curry leaves
When it splutters, add broken red chillies and curry leaves
grated coconut
Add grated coconut and saute for a minute
saute chickpeas
Add the cooked dal, stir fry for a minute and put off the flame
