Chocolate Ombre Butter Cake | 3 Layer Chocolate Butter Cake Recipe

Chocolate Ombre Butter Cake is a colourful cake where the colour graduated from light to dark. It is a perfect after school snacks for kids and tastes best without any icing. They may look challenging when making for the first time but it is one of the simplest recipe once you understand the concept of making this cake. Chocolate Ombre Butter Cake

Prep Time: 10 mins | Baking Time: 50 mins | Baking Tin Used: 9X9

Ingredients:

All Purpose flour / Maida - 1 3/4 cup
Egg - 4
Sugar - 1 cup
Butter - 1 cup
Milk - 1/3 cup
Baking Powder - 2 tsp
Vanilla extract - 1 tsp

For Cocoa Layer:

Cocoa powder - 1/4 cup
Hot boiling water - 1/3 cup
Baking Soda - 1/4 tsp
Sugar - 1/4 cup
Vanilla extract - 1/2 tsp

Method:

Bring water to boil and take it in a bowl. Add the cocoa powder, baking soda, sugar, vanilla extract to the boiling hot water. Mix well.

In a large bowl, take the butter and beat with an hand mixer for a minute. Add in sugar and beat well for about 3 minutes.

Add egg one by one and beat till it is combined well. To this, add vanilla extract and beat for few seconds.

Sift the all purpose flour, add in baking powder and salt. Then, add in little sifted flour to the egg mixture, combine together and add milk. Then add the remaining flour. Now the batter is ready.

For the 1st layer, take 1.5 cup of cake batter in a bowl. Add the cocoa paste to this and mix it is combined well. Pour 1 cup of this cocoa batter to the lined cake tin, leaving 3/4 cup of batter in the bowl for 2nd layer.

Now for the 2nd layer, add 1 cup of normal cake batter to the 3/4 cup of remaining cocoa batter. Combine well. Take this in a piping bag and gently place it in above the cocoa mixture.

For the 3rd layer, add the remaining vanilla cake batter gently on the top for the 3rd layer using a piping bag.

Preheat the oven to 350 F(180 C) and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour.

Once cake is cooled, enjoy.

Note:
  • Cover it with a aluminium foil on the top after 35 minutes to avoid burning on the top.
  • Cake will not rise properly if the oven door is opened frequently.
  • Temperature may vary for oven to oven so baking time will be 10 minutes more or less.
  • This cake tastes best without any icing.
  • Cake will not rise properly if the baking powder is old or not stored properly.
  • Also if the oven is not hot enough, the cake will not rise properly.
  • Do not add too much of baking powder. Use correct measurements.
  • Do not overmix the batter after flour is added to the egg as it can make the cake tough.
  • If the cake tin is too small, too much of batter can result in uncooked middle part.
  • If the oven temperature is too high, outside of the cake will cook faster and the inside will not be cooked properly.

Beat the butter till light and fluffy
Add in 1 cup of sugar and beat well for 3 minutes
Add egg one by one and beat until it is well combined and butter becomes much lighter and fluffy
Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract
Add little sifted flour
beat for few seconds to combine
Add enough milk
Add the remaining flour
Combined together
Now for the 1st layer, take 1.5 cup of cake batter in a bowl. Add the cocoa paste to this and mix it is combined well. Pour 1 cup of this cocoa batter to the lined cake tin, leaving 3/4 cup of batter in the bowl for 2nd layer.
We have 3/4th cup of remaining batter in the bowl
Now for the 2nd layer, add 1 cup of normal cake batter to the 3/4 cup of remaining cocoa batter.
Combine well.
Take this in a piping bag and gently place it in above the cocoa mixture.
For the 3rd layer, add the remaining vanilla cake batter gently on the top for the 3rd layer using a piping bag
Preheat the oven to 350 F(180 C) and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour
Let it cool before you slice the cake. Enjoy!
