Another one pot meal from kowsisfoodbook. A very simple recipe which saves your time. Paruppu sadham is combination of dal and rice. This is one of the first rice we feed for babies at 7months. Not only babies everyone can have this. But if you are preparing this for you baby, reduce or avoid the green chillies. Serve this along with papad and raita.
Rice - 1 cup
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Big Onion - 1
Tomato - 2
Garlic - 2 pods
Green chilli - 2(optional)
Red Chilli - 3
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Cumin - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves - a sprig
Coriander leaves - to garnish
Oil - 1 tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp
Wash and soak together rice and lentil for 30mins.
Finely chop onion and tomato and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add mustard seeds and cumin.
When it starts to crackle, add in slit green chilli, red chilli(break it) and curry leaves.
Then add in chopped onion. When it becomes translucent add in finely chopped tomato.
When it turns mushy, add the soaked rice and dal.
Add in turmeric, salt and 5 cups of water. Check for salt and close the lid. Cook for 4 whistle.
When the pressure is released add little ghee. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with papad.
- If you are preparing this for your baby, reduce green chillies.
|Keep all your ingredients ready|
|Soak together rice and toor dal in 5 cups of water for 30 mins|
|Heat oil in pressure cooker, add mustards and cumin|
|When mustards begin to crackle, add red chilli, green chilli, garlic and curry leaves|
|Add finely chopped onion and stir well|
|When onion becomes translucent, add chopped tomatoes|
|Add in soaked rice and dal|
|Now add turmeric and salt to taste|
|Pressure cook for 5 whistles. It should become mushy|
|Add little ghee and give it a stir. This will enhance its taste|
|Paruppu Sadam is ready to serve :)|
