Pepper Potato Masala | Side dish for Chapati, dosa, idly

Ingredients:
Potato - 2
Onion - 2, medium sized
Tomato - 2
Coconut - 2 tblspn
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tsp
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Whole Pepper - 2 tsp
Fennel seeds / Perunjeeragam - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 4 sprig
Salt - to taste
Oil -3 tblspn
Method:
Slice the onions, tomatoes and coarsely grind the pepper.
Heat oil in a pan, add the sliced onion and salt. Once the onion becomes soft, add the coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric and grated coconut.
Sauté for few seconds and add the chopped tomatoes. Cover and cook for 2 to 3 mins until the tomato becomes slightly mushy. Cool them and grind into a smooth paste adding little water.
In the same pan, add fennel seeds and curry leaves. When it crackles, add the cubed potato pieces and sauté for a min.
Now, add the ground paste, a tsp of ground pepper, enough water and check for salt. Cover with a lid and cook.
When the potatoes are cooked add the remaining pepper and cook for 2 mins. Remove from flame.
Serve with chapati, dosa or idly.
Note:
- Taste good when freshly ground pepper is added.

Throw in some curry leaves. |
Now, add the ground paste |
Salt to taste |

Cover with a lid and cook. |
When the potatoes are cooked add the remaining pepper |
Cook for 2 mins. Remove from flame. |
Serve with chapati, dosa or idly. |
