
Munthiri Kothu is a healthy diwali snack which is popular among some parts of tirunelveli and nagercoil. This traditional sweet is less popular among other parts of tamilnadu. It is very healthy because it is made using green gram and jaggery syrup. It is crispy outside and soft inside. My amma usually makes this for diwali. As it is very healthier one, you can even pack for kids snacks box.

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 20 mins | Makes: 15 approx
Ingredients:
Green gram - 1 cup
Jaggery - 3/4 cup
Chukku powder - 1 tsp
Cardamom - 5
Maida - 1/4 cup
Salt - a pinch
Salt - a pinch
Turmeric - a pinch
Method:
Dry roast the green gram till it browns a little on a low to medium flame. Take the roasted green gram in a mixer and grind it to a coarse powder.
In a sauce pan take jaggery, add water till it immerses and bring it to boil. Once the jaggery dissolve in water switch off the flame.
In a mixing bowl, take the coarsely ground green gram powder, add in crushed cardamom, chukku powder and mix it well.
To this, pour the jaggery syrup little by little and mix well. Make equal sized ball from this mixture.
In a small bowl, take maida, turmeric, salt and little water to make a thick batter like consistency.
Heat oil in a frying pan. Once the oil becomes hot, dip the balls in maida and gently place it in the hot oil.
When it begins to change colour, remove from pan with the help of slotted ladle to drain.
