Bread Upma Recipe
Food intake can look simple, but in realistic world making kids eat is rather most complex thing. To make them eat, one should try many variations in day to day life. So we must learn all the quick dishes to make anytime they ask. Bread upma is a simple, crispy snack which can be served as breakfast or as a after school snack. For maximum pleasure of taste, enjoy the upma immediately when it is hot.

Bread Upma

Recipe Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Category: After School Snacks / Breakfast
Prep Time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 15 mins | Serves: 2

Ingredients:

Bread Slices - 10
Onion - 2
Tomato - 2
Capsicum - 1/2
Green chilli - 1
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp ( or pepper powder)
Turmeric - 1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves - 2 tblpsn
Salt - to taste

To temper:

Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - a sprig
Oil - 2 tblspn

Optional ingredients:

Carrot - 1, small grated
Tomato ketchup - 2 tblspn
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp

Method:

Cut the onion into thin slices. Chop tomato and green chilli into small pieces. Cube the capsicum. Cut the bread into small cubes.

Put a drizzle of cooking oil into a large pan over a medium heat and add in some mustard seeds. When it splutters, add cumin seeds.

Let the cumin crackle. Add slices onion, green chilli, curry leaves and sauté till translucent.

Now, add ginger garlic paste and sauté for few seconds. Add in chopped capsicum, carrot, tomato.

Allow the tomato to cook completely and the let the mixture become little bit dry. Then, add the chilli powder(or pepper powder), turmeric and sauté for a minute.

Add the bread cubes and stir fry for 3 to 5 minutes. If you wish, you can add little ketchup at this stage and mix well. Otherwise, you can serve with ketchup a well.

  • For kids you may add little ginger garlic paste  or skip adding it.

Now, add ginger garlic paste and sauté for few seconds. You can also skip this.
Add in chopped tomato
Then, add the chilli powder(or pepper powder), turmeric and sauté for a minute.
Cut the bread into small cubes.
Allow the tomato to cook completely and the let the mixture become little bit dry.
Add the bread cubes and stir fry for 3 to 5 minutes.
If you wish, you can add little ketchup at this stage and mix well. Otherwise, you can serve with ketchup a well.
Toss well and remove from flame.
Bread Upma Ready
