Konda kadalai Sundal
Chickpeas Sundal is made for Saraswati pooja in our home. So pooja is the first thing that comes to my mind when i think about this sundal. What could be the second thing? Its beach. Rambling around the beach with sundal on one hand, sharing with friends or partners and chit chatting is just awesome. Isn't it? Here comes the recipe for chickpeas sundal...

Chickpeas Sundal

Konda kadalai Sundal


Konda kadalai / Channa - 1 cup
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Small onion / Shallots - 4
Dry red chilli - 4
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 2 sprig
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tsp


Soak channa overnight or for at least 8 hours. 

Next day drain the water and pressure cook by adding salt for 3 whistles or till it becomes soft. Drain the excess water and keep aside.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When it starts to splutter, add in chopped onion, broken red chillies and curry leaves. Sauté for 30 seconds.

Now, add in the pressure cooked channa and sauté for a minute till the water becomes dry. 

Then, add the grated coconut and toss well. Fry for another one minute and remove from flame.


Ingredients for sundal
Keep all your ingredients ready
Soak channa
Soak channa overnight or for at least 8 hours
add mustard seeds
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let it splutter
Add in red chilli, small onion and curry leaves and saute for a minute
add channa
Now, add the boiled channa and saute for a minute to dry the water

Add the grated coconut
mix well
Mix well and saute for 1 or 2 minutes and remove from flame
Channa Sundal
Its ready!
