Masala Peanut Recipe | Masala Kadalai

Masala Peanut
Masala Peanut is a one of the best tea time snack. It is made by deep frying the peanuts which is coated with a spice mix. It is little spicy, crunchy and a tasty snack. I was a craziest fan for peanuts during my childhood. During school days I never crossed a day without eating peanuts. I love peanuts in all forms. This is one of them. I will be posting more peanut recipes in the near future.

Recipe Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Category: Teatime Snack
Prep Time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 10 mins | Serves: 2

Peanut / Groundnut - 1 cup
Besan flour / Kadalai Maavu - 1/4 cup plus 1 tblspn
Rice flour - 2 tblspn
Chilli powder - 2 tsp
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Garam masala - 1 tsp, optional
Garlic crushed - 1 1/2 tsp
Water - as required
Salt - to taste
Curry leaves - a sprig
Oil - to deep fry

If you are using raw peanut, slightly roast them for 2 mins in low to medium flame.

In a large mixing bowl, take peanuts. Add gram flour, rice flour, chillli powder, asafoetida, crushed garlic, curry leaves and salt to this and combine everything together.

Sprinkle little water and mix it till all the peanuts are properly coated with the masala.

Heat oil over medium flame, add in the coated peanuts and fry till it is done.

  • It may be soft immediately after frying and will taste good once cooled.
  • Do not coat with too much flours.
  • Adding crushed garlic and curry leaves will add a nice flavor to the peanut.
  • Rice flour is added to make it crispy. Too much of rice flour will make it hard.
