Poori Kizhangu Masala

Prep Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 25 mins | Serves: 4

Ingredients:

Boiled Potato - 2 to 3(based on its size)
Onion - 2
Green Chilli - 3
Roasted Gram(Pottu Kadalai) flour - 1 tsp
Garam masala - 1/8 tsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Channa dal / Kadala Paruppu - 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Curry leaves - 3 sprigs
Oil - 2 tblspn

Method:

Pressure cook the potatoes for 3 whistles. Once cooled peels its skin and roughly mash it. Keep aside.

 Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds starts to pop, add channa dal.

When it begins to brown, add in sliced onion and slitted green chillies. Saute this for 2 to 3 mins. Add enough curry leaves. It adds a nice flavour to the masala.

Now, add in turmeric, salt and little water. Cover and cook until the onion becomes nice and soft. This process takes around 10 mins.

Add in roughly mashed potatoes and mix it properly.

To this, add a generous pinch of garam masala, roasted gram flour and cook for 3 mins and switch off the flame.

Serve with Poori. Enjoy!

Ingredients for poori masala
Pressure cook the potatoes for 3 whistles. Cool it, peel its skin and roughly mash it. Make a smooth powder with roasted gram dal or pottukadalai
temper with mustards
Heat oil in a pan over medium flame, add mustard seeds. When it pops, add channa dal.

When it turns brown, add sliced onion and slitted green chillies

Add enough curry leaves. This adds additional taste

Add little water to this
turmeric and salt
Immediately, add some turmeric and salt
cover and cook
Cover with a lid and cook for 10 mins
add mashed potato
When onion becomes nice and soft, add the mashed potatoes and mix it well
garam masala added
To this, add a generous pinch of garam masala
gram flour added
Its time to add ground pottukadalai powder. This step is optional.
simmer it
Simmer it for 3 mins and put off the flame

    1. This recipe doesn't call for ginger, garlic. If you wish, you can add little chopped ginger.
