

Andhra Style Fish Curry

Ingredients:
Fish - 1/4 kg
Onion - 1 cup (20 approximately)
Tomato - 3
Green Chilli - 3
Tamarind - small ball sized
Chilli powder - 3 tblspn(Adjust)
Coriander powder - 3 tsp
Cumin powder - 1 tsp
Garlic - 1 tsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - fistful
Oil - 3 tblspn
For Marination:
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp
For Spice Powder:
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Coriander seeds - 1 tsp
Black pepper - 1 tsp
Method:
Marinate the fish with the ingredients listed
under "for marination". Soak the tamarind in water for 15 minutes and
extract its juice.
Purée the tomato and peel the skin of onion. Crush the garlic.
Dry roast the ingredients listed under "for spice powder" under
slow flame and blend it to a smooth powder.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds. When mustard
seeds begin to pop, add curry leaves and crushed
garlic.
Add in slitted green chilli, chopped onion and sauté till onion becomes
translucent. Now, add in coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli powder,
turmeric and salt. Sauté for 30 seconds.
Then, add the puréed tomato and cook for 2 minutes. To this, add the
tamarind extract and enough water. Cook for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, add the fish and cook for 10
minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with hot rice.
Note:
- You can replace the spices masala with readymade powders.
- You can simply sauté the tomatoes till it becomes mushy instead of adding purée.
- Adjust the chilli power according to the sourness of the tamarind and tomato.
