Vazhakkai Podimas with Step by Step Pictures
Vazhakkai Puttu is a very simple and staple side dish in South Indian homes. It almost goes well with everything like sambar, rasam, tamarind based dish or any variety rice. Vazhakkai Puttu

Recipe Cuisine: South Indian | Recipe Category: Side dish for lunch
Prep Time: 5 mins | Cooking Time: 20 mins | Serves: 3

Ingredients:

Raw Plaintain / Vazhakkai - 3
Onion - 1
Red chilli -3
Green chilli - 2
Coconut - 3 tblspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - a sprig
Salt - to taste
Oil - 1 tblspn

Method:

Cook the raw plaintain in boiling water till the outer skin comes out. Peel the skin and finely grate it with a  carrot grater.

Heat little coconut oil,add mustard seeds. When it splutters, add in urad dal and wait till it becomes golden brown.

Add red chilli, green chilli and curry leaves. Then, add the chopped onion and stir fry till it becomes translucent.

Now, add the grated plaintain, salt and stir fry for a minute. Sprinkle some coconut and saute for 2 to 3 minutes. Put off the flame once done.

Serve!
