Mushroom Masala Recipe with Step by Step Pictures
Mushroom masala is a quick Indian recipe that tastes fabulous with hot chapati. With only a handful of ingredients this recipe is so simple that you can make with your eyes closed. When I was kid I hate eating mushrooms but now my world changed. I would simply say I started eating almost all the vegetables as I grow. Nowadays, I buy mushrooms every alternative week and make many dishes with mushroom. Starting with the basic recipes I will update all that I make at home in my blog.

Easy Mushroom Gravy Recipe

Mushroom Masala

Recipe Cuisine: Indian | Recipe Category: Gravy / Dinner Recipes
Prep Time: 15 mins | Cooking Time: 20 mins | Serves: 3

Ingredients:

Mushroom - 250 gm
Onion - 2
Tomato - 1
Green chilli - 1
Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
Chilli powder - 3/4 tsp
Coriander powder - 1 tblspn
Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Cinnamon stick / Pattai - 1
Cloves / Krambu - 2
Cardamom - 1
Bay leaf - 1
Curry leaves - a sprig
Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp(if it is too spicy)
Oil - 1 tblspn

Method:

Peel the skin of mushroom, remove the hairy part(optional) and cut them into thin slices. Finely chop the onion, tomato and green chilli.

In a pan, heat little oil and add in cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, bay leaf and leave it for 1 minute.

Then, add the finely chopped onion, green chilli and curry leaves. Saute until the onion becomes translucent.

Once onion becomes soft, add in chopped tomato and saute for few seconds and add  ginger garlic paste and all the spice powders.

Once the raw smell of the spices is gone, throw in the mushroom slices. Mix well and stir fry for 4 to 5 minutes. Add 1 cup of water and cover with a lid. When mushroom is cooked, switch off the flame.

Serve hot.

Note:

  • If you feel the gravy is too spicy balance the taste by adding little lemon juice.

Add in chopped onion and curry leaves

Add in just 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste(not much as shown in the picture)

When the onion becomes soft, add in chopped tomato and stir fry

Once tomato turns little mushy, add in chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala and salt to taste

Saute till the raw smell is gone

Add mushroom slices

Mix well and and saute for 4 to 5 minutes

Mushroom is almost cooked now

At this stage, add 1 cup of water

Cover and cook. When the mushroom gets fully cooked, switch off the flame.
Mushroom Masala Ready
Serve!
