Cabbage Thoran | Cabbage Stir fry | Cabbage Poriyal

Cabbage Thoran
 In today's fast-paced world, many working women find themselves short on time for cooking. The search for simple recipes with minimal ingredients and quick preparation has become a common quest. This particular recipe caters to that need – it's swift, uncomplicated, and truly marvelous.

Stir-fried cabbage thoran stands out as a delightful side dish in its own right. Interestingly, it also serves as an excellent stuffing for samosas, with a touch of creativity (such as incorporating garam masala and soy sauce). This thoran harmoniously complements the flavors of Sambar or Paruppu. Here is my method of cabbage thoran.

Cabbage Thoran

Ingredients:

Cabbage - 2cups
Onion - 1
Green chilli - 3
Coconut (grated) - 1/2 cup
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 2 sprig
Coconut oil - 2 tblspn
Salt - to taste

Method:

Finely chop cabbage and keep aside.

Cut onion and green chilly. Grind together coconut and cumin without adding water.

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When it begin to crackle, add onion, green chilli and curry leaves. Cook on medium flame, sauté until onion becomes translucent.

Then add finely chopped cabbage. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes.

Cover the pan and cook for 5 mins. Stir well in between.

Add coarsely ground coconut cumin paste, salt and turmeric. Stir well to mix it evenly. Once cooked, remove from flame.

Enjoy!

Note:
  • Do not add water as cabbage will become soggy. If necessary sprinkle little water.

Keep all your ingredients ready

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow it to crackle

Add in chopped green chillies and curry leaves. Fry for few seconds
adding onion
Add the chopped onion and saute for a minute
adding cabbage
Now, add the finely shredded cabbage and fry till it is cooked
salt, turmeric added
Once the cabbage gets cooked, add the turmeric and salt
coconut added
Then, add coarsely ground coconut and cumin
mix well
Mix well and saute for 2 to 3 minutes and remove from flame
Cabbage Stir fry
Its ready to serve!
